What is Endothelial Dysfunction?

The earliest indicator of cardiovascular disease is endothelial dysfunction. If the endothelium and its endothelial cells are damaged from smoking, fat-laden foods, not enough exercise, and too much stress, what develops is known as endothelial dysfunction.

The presence of endothelial dysfunction in the coronary circulation highly predicts cardiovascular events in people in early stages of disease, beyond any conventional risk factors.

If endothelium stressors are allowed to persist, the walls of the arteries begin to lose their elasticity and become hard and thick. This reduces the supply of nutrient- and oxygen-rich blood to the tissues, including the heart.

It is vitally important that you take control of your own health. By taking an EndoPAT test, you and your doctor can determine whether you should be making more aggressive lifestyle changes or beginning medication therapy to reduce your risk of a heart attack or health related problems.
